braatzledger — Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 12, 2026
1. What we collect
Information you give us: your name, business name, email address, mobile number (if you choose texts), your sign-in method, and your payment details (held by our payment processor, not by us). Information from your bank connection: when you connect an account through Plaid, we receive transaction history (date, amount, description), balances and account names. We never receive your bank username or password. Information you create: the categories you confirm, your answers to our questions, rules and notes you add — the books themselves. Information about your visit: IP address, browser type, device, pages viewed and access times, through cookies and similar technology.
2. How we use it, and who helps us
We use your information to build and keep your books, to ask you about transactions we cannot place, to run and secure the Service, to bill you, and to answer your requests. We do not sell, rent or share your personal or financial information, except with the providers below, who act only on our instructions and under their own privacy terms:
- Plaid Inc. — connects your bank accounts (https://plaid.com/legal).
- Twilio Inc. — delivers our text messages; receives your mobile number and the message content.
- our payment processor — Shopify Payments — holds your card details; we never see the full number.
- our hosting providers — run the servers your data lives on.
We may also disclose information to comply with law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the public.
3. Text messages
If you give us a mobile number and confirm it, we text that number about your own books, as described in our Terms of Service §5. Reply STOP to any text to opt out, HELP for help. Your mobile number and your consent to receive texts are not shared with or sold to third parties for their marketing. Message content stays between you and braatzledger (and Twilio, which carries it).
4. A human in the loop
Transactions the machine cannot place may be reviewed by a braatzledger bookkeeper before you are asked, so that you are asked as little as possible. That reviewer sees the transaction line and your books for that purpose only, and every review is logged.
5. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies to keep you signed in and to understand how the site is used. Site usage is measured with our own self-hosted analytics (Umami), which sets no third-party cookies and sends nothing to an advertiser; we do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can decline cookies in your browser; signing in requires one.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your transaction data and books while your account is active and for 90 days after cancellation so you can export them. After that, or when you delete your account, we delete them, except records we must keep for legal, tax or security reasons, which we keep only as long as required and then delete. Backups run nightly (about 05:00-06:00 UTC) and are overwritten on a rolling schedule, so deleted data ages out of them rather than being kept.
7. Your rights
You can see, export, correct or delete your information at any time in Settings or by emailing help@braatzledger.com. Texas residents have rights under the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, and California residents under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what we collect, to delete it, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights; we do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. To exercise a right, email us; we will verify the request and respond within the time the law allows.
8. Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit and at rest, access controls that limit who at braatzledger can see what, and logging of every access. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your data we will tell you as the law requires.
9. Children
The Service is for businesses and adults; we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
10. Changes
We may update this policy by posting the new version here with a new date, and, for material changes, by emailing you.
